Separation anxiety … not for this kiddo.
September 26, 2011 by Scott Mayes
Preschool began for our youngest son today at Taylor Tots in Gleed.
Now, the word “preschool” needs some definition here.
He’s a week shy of 14 months old.
So, it’s not the “let’s get ready for kindergarten” kind of preschool.
It is however a big step – you know the kind of day where you take a picture.
So, my wife and I headed over to school this morning with Nathan probably wondering where he was going.
Then, we got to this building and then we stepped inside.
Initially, he looked pretty nervous — everyone and everything was new.
Then, we got him over to his classroom and he saw there were 3-4 other kids his age – and more importantly, there were toys.
We stood and talked with his teacher for a few minutes.
Julie explained that he knew two pieces of sign language.
She has taught him the sign for “more” and also the sign for “milk.”
Both of these signs mean: “Feed me!”
We wondered if he would cry or have any separation anxiety.
As we got ready to head out (even before we made a move for the door) he looked at us and waved.
I guess this was his way of telling us we were free to go.
No tears were shed. And Nathan had a great day playing with his new friends.
This is our third son that we’ve done the “drop off” with. And, much like the others, it was pretty smooth.
How about you? Do you remember the big day? And, more importantly, did you survive?
